Cricket World News at a Glance

These days people follow all the latest cricket updates on social media. But through this article, you will get not just the updates but also fresh and detailed news from the cricket world. The latest big highlight is that the Indian cricket team has lifted the Asia Cup 2025. Yes, India won the Asia Cup final match, giving fans across the nation a reason to celebrate.

However, instead of the usual glittering trophy moments, this year something unusual happened. The Indian team celebrated victory without collecting the Asia Cup trophy. This has now become a major talking point in cricket circles.

Why India Did Not Take the Trophy

Normally, after winning a tournament, the trophy is handed over directly to the team captain. But this time, the Indian players refused to accept the trophy. Reports suggest that when Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and also the current chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), walked forward to hand over the cup, the Indian team did not take it from him.

Shockingly, some people even started calling him a “trophy thief” on social media, questioning why the trophy has not yet reached India even after the big win. Presently, the Asia Cup trophy is kept at the ACC office, which also houses the ICC Academy.

This has left many wondering—how will the trophy finally reach India?

BCCI vs ACC: Growing Tensions

The issue is not just about the trophy. Behind the scenes, friction between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the ACC has been heating up. There have been several disagreements between Mohsin Naqvi and the Indian cricket board over various decisions related to the Asia Cup.

Because of this, the BCCI is now considering plans to remove Mohsin Naqvi from his position as ACC chairman. In fact, several reports suggest that discussions are already happening around this internally.

Can BCCI Remove Mohsin Naqvi?

At first glance, it may seem that BCCI has enough power to demand change. After all, around 80% of the ACC’s funding comes directly from BCCI. Without Indian money, the financial foundation of the council would shake badly.

But the system of voting inside the ACC is very different. Each member country, whether big or small, gets only one vote. That means a board contributing 80% of the funds still has the same voting power as one contributing only 2%.

So, BCCI cannot directly remove Mohsin Naqvi on its own. There is no such rule. However, there are certain procedures through which a chairman can be replaced. If two-thirds of the voting nations agree, a new election can be called for the ACC chairman’s position. This is the loophole BCCI may try to use.

Alliances That Matter

To succeed in this plan, India needs the support of other cricket boards. India has traditionally good relations with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. With their support, India’s chances of pushing for change become stronger. But the real question is whether Bangladesh, another key voting member, will stand with India or not.

If India manages to convince enough countries for a two-thirds majority, then new elections could be held, opening the door for the removal of Mohsin Naqvi. On the other hand, if India fails to build consensus, then Naqvi may continue with his position comfortably.

The Role of ICC

Though separate from the Asian Cricket Council, the International Cricket Council (ICC) provides support to the ACC. Some insiders believe that if this matter escalates further, the ICC may indirectly step in to ensure fair functioning of the Asian council.

That means BCCI’s plan is not impossible, but also not straightforward. It will depend largely on political alliances, cricket diplomacy, and how other Asian countries view Naqvi’s leadership.

The Big Question

For the moment, the trophy meant for the Indian team remains parked in the ACC office. Indian fans, however, are eager to see their heroes lift it officially. While the BCCI works behind the scenes to remove Mohsin Naqvi from his role, debates are going on:

Is sacking Naqvi the right way forward for cricket in the region? Or should politics be kept away from the game?

The drama around the Asia Cup trophy has brought these questions to the forefront.

What do you think? Should Mohsin Naqvi be removed from his post as ACC chairman or not? Share your views in the comments.
